Having dental coverage can save you money, but it’s important to understand that your plan works better with certain dentists – specifically, dentists who are in-network.
To help clarify any network confusion, here are some key points to know:
1. Your benefits may not work at all dentist offices.
Dental coverage works best when you visit a dentist in a provider’s network; otherwise your plan may not cover treatments.
2. You will save money by seeing an in-network dentist.
Network dentists have a contract with an insurance to provide an agreed upon rate to patients in exchange for reimbursement. This means that the dentist agrees to never charge patients more than the fees determined by the contract.
Conversely, because out-of-network dentists are not under contact, they can charge patients at any rate and the benefits companies may not cover costs. This could mean a higher out-of-pocket for you as a patient.
Bonus: Most dental plans completely cover preventative services like your 6-month cleaning. This is not guaranteed if you visit an out-of-network dentist.
3. Finding a network dentist is easy.
Good news! Delta Dental has the largest provider network in the country with nearly 145,000 participating dentists. Use our dentist search to find a network dentist closes to you.
